Road Resurfacing - Step 2: Resurfacing with Rubber Chip Seal

Commencing the week of May 20th, the Town of Hopkinton will begin Step 2 of this Project. See the details below.

The Road Resurfacing project is to repair and extend the life of our town's infrastructure.  The town has contracted All States Materials Group to complete the project, together with their advisement, the town will be applying an Asphalt-Rubber SAM (Stress Absorbing Membrane). This type of treatment creates a highly durable wearing surface for demanding pavements. The innovative surface treatment is more durable than conventional hot mix overlays and is a long-lasting preventive maintenance that preserves the value of structurally sound pavements. • These projects have been planned to impact our town residents as little as possible, such as Chase Hill, Diamond Hill, Maxon Hill, Fairview Avenue, and Skunk Hill Road.
  • All work will be performed between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
  • There are no planned road closures, and the town will provide Public Works employees for all flagging needs to reduce and minimize traffic disturbances.

Please keep in mind that the road resurfacing project will take place in two steps.

Step 1: Roads will be prepped by shimming: The roads were prepped by shimming to re-establish a uniform cross slope and to smooth out any distortion in the existing pavement surface for better final rubber chip seal application.

Step 1 is now complete.

Step 2: Resurfacing with Rubber Chip Seal: The crumb rubber modified asphalt is composed of performance graded asphalt blended with ground rubber from recycled tires. The durability outperforms conventional hot mix overlays and nearly doubles the life of chip seals.

Work is estimated to commence the week of May 20th (weather dependent).

Thank you in advance for your assistance and understanding during these five important projects.
