Revaluation Information

Revaluation is required under Rhode Island General Law §44-5-11.6. The law mandates each city and town in Rhode Island to follow the revaluation schedule below:

On each 3rd and 6th year, a statistical revaluation will be completed.
On the 9th year, a full revaluation will be completed.

A statistical revaluation is colloquially called an “update.” During these revaluations, only those homes that have sold in the previous 3 years, or those that have pulled permits will be visited. The data from the homes that have sold for the previous three years will be analyzed to provide new assessed values for all properties in town.

A full revaluation is a thorough inspection of every single property in town. Every parcel, whether it has sold or had improvements completed, will be visited. These site visits include measuring each dwelling and outbuilding to ensure the records on file at the assessor’s office are correct. Information on the interior of each building will also try to be gathered. If information is not provided or available, an estimate will be made. Sales from the previous three years will be analyzed to determine new assessed values of each home in the town.

Hopkinton has concluded a full revaluation as of December 31, 2022. The next two revaluations, as of December 31, 2025 and December 31, 2028, will be statistical revaluations.
